Draw-Write-Read

This is our introductory workshop. Learn how to use drawing and writing to engage children in daily reading practice. We will examine drawing through the lens of horizontal, vertical, diagonal, curved and zigzag lines. We will explore color theory and discuss ways to make color suggestions to a child without squelching creativity. We will also experiment with a variety of mediums for coloring artwork: markers, colored pencils, watercolor pencils, watercolor, and chalk. On the phonics side, we will learn the 64 most frequently used phonograms in popular children's literature and how to guide children to use them to transcribe the words they say and hear.

Storytelling & Phonics

In this workshop, we will explore Charlotte Mason narration and how it can be used to engage emergent readers in phonics practice. Show children that putting words on paper can be endless fun when the process includes puppets, costumes, and set design. Learn how to coach children to write their own storytelling scripts and then use those scripts to practice writing and reading. This multisensory approach to literacy will change how you teach reading forever.

Digital Drawing Basics

This workshop will demonstrate how to trace your child's drawings in Adobe Illustrator for endless coloring adventures. Learn to create gradients and apply textures for uniquely creative art experiences. Learn concepts like stroke weight and variable width, create color palettes, and experiment with patterns. If you're a hands-on learner this is the workshop for you. Bring your iPad and expect to go home with a bucketful of tips and tricks to enhance your child's drawing, writing, and reading.
